Homework
Up

Homework is a self-defined word. It is work you do at home. Generally, it's accepted that you can do homework any where you please except in class. The only time you may do homework in class is when the teacher explicitly allows it.

Here are a few format notes:

bulletUse lined or graph paper. Always.
bulletUse a pencil. You will make mistakes and you will need to erase. You may use colored pencils in graphs and charts.  Using a pen, even the erasable type will earn you no credit for that assignment.
bulletUse a ruler whenever you need to draw a straight line. ALWAYS.
bulletTell me who you are and what assignment you're doing by placing your full name, the date, and a label identifying the assignment. I can't give you credit if I don't know who you are.

Some recommendations.

bulletGenerally, I allow students to use a computer to produce their work. In some instances, I will announce that using a computer is not allowed for a certain assignment. The reason is mostly when a computer will do the intended work for you, thus you would not get the benefit of the lesson. Regardless of the chosen method, students must always show their work and explain how and what they did.
bulletBe neat. Presentation is as important as the content. You would want your lunch to look good and taste good. You would also want your clothes to look good and keep you warm. And I am sure you would like a car that looks good and runs well. Therefore, I would like to see a homework that looks good and is correct.
bulletDo it. At least try. I much prefer you do your homework all wrong than not do it at all. It tells me you're trying, and helps me know which parts you did not understand. It also tells you which part you did not understand and avoid saying things like "I don't get it." I ask: "You don't get what?" and the answer is: "I don't get any of it." Most of all, you may be surprised at how much you do know. To top it all off, you get some credit for doing the homework as opposed to no credit for not doing it.

Note:  It is your responsibility that if you are absent, you contact a friend and find out about the homework. Not only will you be caught up, but you will demonstrate that you are a serious student and are making an effort to be successful. It will also improve your effort and participation grade.
